Position: Mentor Teacher - potentially temporary
Location: School

Schedule: 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday.
Starting Salary Range: Salary + Stipend most likely
No day is ever alike but you can generally look forward to the following additional responsibilities:
Onboarding new teachers
- Serve as the primary teacher resource for teachers during their first 30–90 days
- Conduct a structured onboarding walkthrough covering daily routines
- Provide a curated set of resources, templates, and tools relevant to working with students with IDD
- Provide support and guidance on
- Documentation requirements
- Communication practices with all stakeholders
- Supervising paraprofessionals
Ongoing consultation and support
- Be available during non-student contact hours to answer instructional, classroom management, and procedural questions
- Provide real-time guidance on adapting lessons for diverse learners across the 5–21 age range
- Meet regularly (at minimum bi-weekly) with mentees for structured check-ins
Instructional Planning Support
- Assist new and developing teachers in designing structured, IEP-aligned lesson plans that reflect evidence-based practices for IDD
- Model differentiated instruction strategies for students with varying cognitive, communication, and motor profiles
- Support development of classroom schedules, visual supports, and environmental arrangements that promote student independence
- Help teachers interpret assessment data and incorporate goals into daily instruction
- Review and give feedback on lesson plans, unit maps, and instructional materials outside of student contact hours
- Share examples of data collection systems, progress monitoring tools, and IEP goal tracking templates
Classroom environment and structure
- Guide new teachers in establishing predictable, structured routines that support students with IDD
- Advise on physical classroom setup, sensory considerations, and organized materials systems
- Support implementation of visual schedules, transition cues, and reinforcement systems
- Help teachers build and maintain effective working relationships with classroom paraprofessionals
Professional culture and wellbeing
- Guide new teachers in establishing predictable, structured routines that support students with IDD
- Advise on physical classroom setup, sensory considerations, and organized materials systems
- Support implementation of visual schedules, transition cues, and reinforcement systems
- Help teachers build and maintain effective working relationships with classroom paraprofessionals

Minimum Qualifications
- Valid special education teaching license/certification
- Minimum of 3 years of classroom experience with students with IDD
- Demonstrated expertise in IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Experience in facility, alternative, or non-traditional school settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with colleagues
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AAC systems, applied behavior analysis (ABA), or positive behavior supports (PBIS) Prior mentorship, coaching, or leadership roleOur Values:
